Delve deep into rural Uganda, this riding holiday takes you through the forests, plantations and local villages that line the world’s longest river. The story of the search for the source of the Nile is one of the real classics from the era of the great explorers; it ranks alongside the search for the Northwest Passage, and the search for the Oregon Trail. This is an off-the-beaten-track ride and for those seeking a unique adventure. It is an awesome feeling to stand at the source of the world’s longest river. To be able to do so as part of a riding holiday makes it even more special!

Here you will experience rural Africa, riding from farmland to forest, rapids to river, staying at 4 amazing lodges along the way. Feel like the Pied Piper as the children run to say “Jambo!”, following the horses as you ride through traditional villages. Spend your first few days cantering through sugar cane and tea plantations, or riding along the banks of the River Nile with the rushing white water below you. Explore lush green rain forests, feeling like jungle explorers in search of rare birds and monkeys, cross swamps and climb hills boasting beautiful vistas. Spend a day riding along the edge of the magic Lake Victoria before following the edge of the River Nile to its source.

Stunning and diverse vistas teamed with Africa’s world-famous sunrises and sunsets, ensures a feast for your soul throughout the week. Stay in some memorable and beautiful lodges, from a cabin in the forest to an island in the middle of the Nile! Besides incredible riding, there are other activities at the lodges – white water rafting, swimming pools with breathtaking views, and sunset cruises on the Nile. The fabulous sights of Uganda, pristine rain forest, great birding, monkeys galore, iconic rivers and lakes and the colourful villages makes this a riding holiday to remember.

Small groups ensure that each rider has the best possible experience and the pace can be adjusted to suit the group’s riding ability. The horses are incredibly well trained, forward going and love showing off their little piece of paradise. Many of the horses compete in dressage and eventing and are fit and responsive. To get the most out of this exciting experience, we recommend that you are confident in the saddle, being able to trot and canter for long periods – You’ll be well rewarded! The dirt tracks make long canters a pleasure and there are some brilliant spots for faster gallops! This is also a great ride for those who would like to boost their confidence, we can almost guarantee that you’ll be galloping up front by the end of the week!

We also HIGHLY recommend adding a few extra nights on to see the Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – a must-do while in Uganda!

After meeting the horses and your guides, mount up for a 1 and a half-hour ride to get to know your horse. Riding in that beautiful afternoon light, as the sun starts to sink, you will explore the local village and the banks of the River Nile. Enjoy dinner overlooking the Nile and spend the night at Holland Park.
