THE JOURNEY:

Chapter 1:

Entebbe

Days 1–2 | Arrival in Uganda

Karibu Entebbe, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative who will transfer you to  Entebbe Forest Lodge in Uganda’s relaxed lakeside gateway on the shores of Lake Victoria.

Your first night is spent at an 8-cabin forest lodge on the peninsular within tropical gardens and forest alive with birdsong. The lodge combines modern architecture with warm natural textures and open-air spaces and a swimming pool where you get fresh air and a natural, scenic vibe. The atmosphere here feels private, calm, and restorative after a long international journey. Its location also offers convenient access to Lake Victoria excursions, including the remarkable Mabamba shoebill excursion and Chimp Sanctuary at Ngamba Island. Accompanied by expert local naturalists, glide silently through narrow papyrus channels in a traditional wooden canoe while searching for the elusive shoebill stork among one of Uganda’s richest wetland ecosystems. Beyond the shoebill, the wetlands support over 200 bird species, creating an exceptional bird watching experience, making for a humble introduction to Uganda’s rich biodiversity.

A visit to Ngamba Island offers a meaningful introduction to a unique primate conservation story. Reached by speed boat across the vast waters of Lake Victoria, the journey itself is part of the experience, including a crossing of the Equator on the waters before arriving at this forested island sanctuary dedicated to the care and protection of orphaned and rescued chimpanzees. Home to more than 55 chimpanzees, Ngamba Island provides lifelong refuge for individuals rescued across the Great Lakes Region from the illegal wildlife trade, habitat loss, and other human-related threats. The sanctuary operates under a strong conservation ethic, including strict environmental policies that help preserve the island’s natural character and reinforce its commitment to sustainable tourism. During your visit, you will learn about the individual stories of the chimpanzees, the challenges facing primate conservation across Africa, and the ongoing rehabilitation work carried out by the sanctuary team. From an elevated viewing platform, guests can participate in feeding sessions as the chimpanzees gather below, offering remarkable opportunities to observe their personalities, social interactions, and intelligence at close range.

Chapter 2:

Kidepo Valley National Park

Days 3–5 | Uganda’s Ultimate Wilderness Experience

A scenic charter flight north-east reveals an entirely different Uganda, the vast semi-arid Karamoja plains and rugged volcanic mountain ranges.

Upon landing at Apoka Airstrip, you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred on a short game drive to Apoka Safari Lodge, your home for the next three nights in the heart of Kidepo Valley National Park. The 10 canvas-walled chalet lodge occupies a unique position on a rocky outcrop overlooking the wildlife-rich Narus Valley, where elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and antelope are often visible directly from the lodge. Constructed from natural stone, timber, and canvas, the lodge features spacious rooms with private verandas, handcrafted furnishings, outdoor stone bathtubs and swimming pool. Days are spent exploring this remarkable ecosystem through privately guided game drives and sand river walks and cultural visits. Wildlife viewing here is exceptional. Large herds of buffalo and elephants roam the valleys alongside giraffes, zebras, and elands. In Kidepo you may encounter species rarely seen elsewhere in the country, including ostriches, striped hyenas, bat-eared foxes, striped-sided jackals, and, on rare occasions, cheetahs and African wild dogs. Adding to the park’s conservation story is the recently established rhino sanctuary within the park, an important step in the long-term restoration of species that once ranged across this landscape. With rhinos now joining lions, leopards, elephants, and buffalo within the wider ecosystem, Kidepo is steadily evolving into Uganda’s Big Five safari destination. There are eight southern white rhinos, guests may have the opportunity to observe rhinos while gaining insight into the conservation efforts helping shape Kidepo’s future.

Chapter 3:

Murchison Falls and the Nile River

Days 6–8 | The River Safari

A scenic charter flight south brings you to Pakuba Airstrip, where you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred to Papa’s Camp on the northern banks of the Nile River within Murchison Falls National Park.

For millennia, the Nile has shaped civilizations, inspired explorers, and connected cultures across Africa. Here in northern Uganda, the Nile creates one of Africa’s spectacular natural wonders. Flowing out of Lake Victoria and gathering strength along the way, the river gets compressed through a narrow six-metre rock cleft before exploding into the gorge below at Murchison Falls creating one of the world’s most powerful waterfalls with a trademark rainbow. Spend the next three nights at Papa’s Camp, an intimate riverside safari camp inspired by the adventurous spirit of Ernest Hemingway, affectionately known as “Papa.” The connection is more than symbolic. In 1954, Hemingway famously survived two consecutive plane crashes while exploring the Nile near Murchison Falls, an extraordinary story that became part of the region’s safari folklore. This camp, with personalized hosting, excellent food,  reflects that spirit of exploration and simplicity. Spacious safari tents are positioned close to the river’s edge beneath shady trees, creating a relaxed and tranquil atmosphere.

Days are spent exploring the wildlife-rich northern plains, where large herds of African elephants, Cape buffaloes, Rothschild’s giraffes, and Uganda kobs move across the open savannah, often attracting predators including lions and leopards. A boat cruise along the Nile, reveals enormous pods of hippos crowd the river channels while some of Africa’s largest Nile crocodiles bask along the banks. The park’s diverse habitats also support exceptional birdlife, from colourful kingfishers and bee-eaters to the iconic shoebill in selected wetland areas. Back at camp, life settles into the rhythm of the roaring river. Hippos surface below camp as kingfishers dart across the water evenings are marked by sundowners overlooking the Nile, lantern-lit dinners beneath the trees, and the distant sounds of the African wilderness after dark.

Chapter 4:

Kibale National Park

Days 9–11 | Into the Primate Capital of The World

Depart Murchison Falls by scheduled charter flight to Kasese, enjoying aerial views of Uganda’s changing landscapes as the savannah gradually gives way to the crater lake region and the forested highlands of western Uganda.

Upon arrival in Kasese, you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred through the scenic Ndali-Kasenda volcanic crater lake field to Kibale Lodge, your home for the next three nights positioned high on a forested ridge with sweeping views of the Rwenzori Mountains and the distant plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Opened in 2024, the lodge reflects a distinctive handmade architectural style, built by a skilled in-house team of African artisans using volcanic stone, timber, woven textures, and expansive glass openings that draw the surrounding landscape into every space. With only eight individually crafted bandas, Kibale Lodge feels intimate with wide terraces, fireplaces, personal butler service, a spa, swimming pool, and thoughtfully prepared locally inspired cuisine creating an atmosphere of quiet moments immersed within Uganda’s western highlands.

Kibale National Park is often referred to as the “Primate Capital of the World”, protecting the largest concentration of 1,500 chimpanzees in East Africa alongside twelve other primate species including red colobus monkeys and grey cheeked mangabeys. The Kibale forest is a remarkable ecosystem of towering mahogany, fig and ironwood trees, tangled lianas, forest clearings, and rich biodiversity that supports an extraordinary variety of wildlife and birdlife. Experiences here centre around chimpanzees. Guests may choose between the standard chimpanzee trekking experience or the more immersive Chimpanzee Habituation Experience, which allows extended time in the company of a chimpanzee community as researchers and trackers follow their daily movements through the forest. These encounters offer a fascinating insight into the behaviour, social structure, and intelligence of our closest living relatives. In addition to chimps, among other activities include guided walks through Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community-managed conservation area renowned for its prolific birdlife, 8 of the 12 monkeys, and wetland biodiversity.

Chapter 5:

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Days 12–13 | In the Presence of Gorillas

From Kibale, transfer back to Kasese Airstrip for your scheduled charter flight to Kihihi into the northern part of Bwindi impenetrable forest.

You will be welcomed by our representative and transferred on a short drive to Bwindi Lodge, located at the edge of the rainforest near Buhoma, the headquarters of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Positioned right at the forest edge overlooking the canopy and Munyanga river below, Bwindi lodge is built out of natural timber, volcanic stone featuring expansive windows, and elevated decks. The lodge combines contemporary African design with a captivating setting deeply immersed in the atmosphere of the rainforest. Between treks, guests may unwind at the lodge’s celebrated Bwindi Bar, enjoying a freshly prepared traditional Ugandan Rolex wrap alongside the signature “Gorillini” cocktail as mist drifts slowly through the forest below.

A second gorilla trek offers an entirely different experience from the first. No two gorilla encounters are ever the same given that each reveals changing forest conditions, terrain, and gorilla family dynamics create completely new photographic and emotional moments each time.

Additional time in Bwindi allows for slower exploration of the surrounding communities and forest trails providing flexibility for more photography opportunities. A guided waterfall walk through one of the forest’s quieter and most beautiful sections. The trail winds gently beneath dense rainforest canopy, passing giant ferns, wild orchids, and ancient trees alive with birdsong before reaching a series of pristine waterfalls hidden deep within the forest. Visit the Batwa Empowerment Village outside the park, a meaningful cultural experience created in partnership with the local Batwa community. Guided by Batwa elders and community members, the village walk offers insight into the traditions, survival skills, and ancient forest knowledge of the hunter-gatherer life within the forest. Through storytelling, music, dance, and hands-on demonstrations, visitors learn how the Batwa gathered honey from the forest, used medicinal plants and herbs, crafted tools from natural materials, and created fire using traditional techniques passed down through generations. Far more than a performance, the activity creates space for genuine cultural exchange while supporting community-led preservation of Batwa heritage for future generations. Back at the lodge, evenings unfold beside the campfire as mist drifts slowly across the forest canopy below.

Chapter 6:

Jinja and the Source of the Nile

Days 14–15 | River Life and Reflection

A scenic charter flight from Kihihi to Jinja brings the final chapter of your journey to the source of the Nile, where Africa’s longest river begins its remarkable 6,650-kilometre journey north toward the Mediterranean Sea.

Upon arrival, you will be transferred by boat to Wildwaters Lodge, a 10-suit exclusive island retreat set on a private granite island surrounded by the powerful rapids of the Nile. Hidden within riverine forest and reached only by water, the lodge offers a striking sense of seclusion. The lodge combines contemporary design, natural materials, and thoughtful architecture with spacious timber-and-canvas suites elevated above the river and positioned to maximise privacy. Each suite features expansive decks, freestanding bathtubs, and uninterrupted views across the Nile. The lodge’s swimming pool, spa treatments, forest walks, and private decks provide ample opportunity to unwind while watching the Nile surge endlessly past the island below.

After days spent tracking wildlife across Uganda’s savannahs and forests, Jinja introduces a different rhythm. The Nile becomes both playground and sanctuary, offering opportunities for world-class white-water rafting through some of the river’s most exhilarating rapids, horseback riding through rural communities and boat excursion to the Source of the Nile. Evenings are particularly memorable. As the light softens across the river, lanterns illuminate pathways through the forest, the sounds of rushing water echo through the rapids, and dinner is served beneath the trees overlooking one of Africa’s most celebrated rivers.
